Music by Nicolas Garcia

feat. Tina Guo · Budapest Scoring Orchestra

A full orchestral score recorded live in Budapest, built from ancient war horns, electric cello, and the musical DNA of cosmic horror.

A haunting orchestral soundtrack that could not be more perfect for the themes and narrative. It should be talked about for years to come. Eerie and unnerving, yet tranquil and powerful.”

THE SCORE

When Nicolas Garcia was asked to score Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, he made one decision that defined everything: every orchestral element would be real. No synthetic strings. No sample libraries. No shortcuts.

He assembled over 80 musicians at the Budapest Scoring Orchestra & Choir, brought in the legendary cellist Tina Guo, known for her work on Hans Zimmer's world tours, and added the carnyx, an ancient Celtic war horn used in battle two thousand years ago.

Beyond the orchestra, Garcia pushed further into uncharted sonic territory, crafting unique textures with the ContinuuMini, a rare expressive synthesizer, and layering them through custom resynthesis to create sounds that exist nowhere else. Organic and electronic, ancient and alien, woven into a single coherent identity.

The result is a score that doesn't just accompany the game. It inhabits it.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Nicolas Garcia

FILM · TELEVISION · VIDEO GAMES

Nicolas Garcia is a French composer crafting immersive, cinematic scores at the intersection of orchestral tradition and modern sound design. Trained at the Conservatoire and Paris-Sorbonne, he works across film, television and video games between France and USA.

For Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, Garcia assembled a distinctive sound palette, the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, the ancient Celtic war horn known as the carnyx, and the electric cello of Tina Guo, to create a sonic identity as unsettling and alive as the world of R'lyeh itself.

BEHIND THE SCENE

How do you compose

the sound of madness?

« I wanted the music not to simply play in the background but to act as a theme which engulfs the game world and its lore. »
— Nicolas Garcia

Nicolas Garcia walks you through the creative process, from the first sketches to the Budapest recording stage, where ancient war horns met electric cello in the depths of R'lyeh.
